On July 4, 1945, Officer Huff was en route to 31st and Van Brunt Blvd., to monitor Independence Day traffic, when he lost control of his motorcycle at 47th and Benton and hit the curb throwing him against a light pole. The impact threw him over the handle bars, and into a utility pole. Officer Huff died from his injuries, including a severed jugular vein, fractured skull and two broken legs, at the scene of the accident.
Officer Huff, 26, was survived by his wife, Juanita. Interment was at Braymer, Missouri.
