On March 7, 1924 Detective George E. Lawson and Officer E. T. Roberts were attempting to arrest two men who had just robbed the Faultless Laundry at 1401 Woodland Avenue when the men ran. Lawson reached the men a few seconds before Roberts and called for them to halt. The men turned and fired on Detective Lawson fatally wounding him.
On March 8th, Detectives Charles Bland and Louis Myers entered a rooming house in an attempt to arrest D. C. Morris for the murder of Detetcive Lawson as Detective Fisher guarded a rear door. Detective D. C. Morris opened fire on the detectives wounding each of them in the arms.
Detective Fisher fired five shots instantly killing Morris.
Detective Lawson was survived by his wife, Marie.
